The Growers - Hand Crafted Wines

Welcome

At a time when the wine industry is adapting to production oversupply and increasing competition, opportunities emerge to create wines that offer a point of difference at exceptional value for our customers. The Growers has taken advantage of those opportunities to develop a portfolio of products that showcase Western Australian viticulture like never before.

Presenting wines that combine celebrated Western Australian fruit quality and wine-making craft is our obsession. That obsession has been rewarded by significant critical recognition and show success in our short history.

Wine Show Success

There have been many highlights in the short history of this unique business. In limited show entries, The Growers have enjoyed significant show successes including the Trophy for the best red blend of the 2005 Mt. This success has continued to flow into 2007 with the Limited Release 2004 Reward Merlot winning Gold at the 2007 Sheraton Wine Show in August, one of only nine golds awarded for the entire show.

History

The Growers Pty Ltd was incorporated in September 2002 by viticulturist and winemaker Phil May. The early days of the business operation were undertaken at Phil's "Peppermint Grove" vineyard in Pemberton, Western Australia. Sixteen other vineyards from six of the regions of south-west Western Australia joined the business in March 2003.

The Growers commenced leasing of the established and mature AbbeyVale property in May 2003 and the business base was moved to this premier Margaret River address at this time. As tenants of the AbbeyVale property, initially The Growers were able to gain market access by utilizing the existing AbbeyVale brand. While AbbeyVale offered immediate market acceptance, it became necessary to establish brands within the company's ownership. The next stage of our brand positioning was to promote our entire range under a simplified portfolio where all products are marketed under the single "Growers" umbrella.
